NTFS is the latest and standard file system of Windows. Its full name is New Technology File System, which means this new file system included better features, and much more high technology. NTFS supports much bigger drives(up to 2TB, but FAT32 supports only 128GB) and has a faster file reading speed.

However, some users’ harddisk drives are FAT32 file system still. They might want to convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS, and the most important thing is, they do not want to lose their data after the conversion.

So Windows supplied a command line tool for convert FAT32 to NTFS Without Losing Data. Now let me show you how to do that:

Click on Start button, and select “Run” item. Type in this command:

convert d: /fs:ntfs

That command will convert your drive D to NTFS file system. You can change the “D” to any drive you want to convert. But if you want to convert drive C, or the drive your windows installed on, it will convert the drive at the next time of PC starting.

NOTE: FAT32 to NTFS conversion is a non-reversible conversion, unless you format your NTFS drive and redivid partitions.
